How we tested

We bought all five stands at retail, used them in rotation across the same four devices for six weeks, and scored them on the six things that decide whether a stand stays on the counter or ends up in a drawer.

Stability under real use

Twenty screen taps per device on stone, laminate and wood. Any stand that walked, tipped or needed a steadying hand lost points immediately.

Device range

A 6.1in phone in a case, a 6.8in phone, a 10.9in tablet and a Switch. Stands that only worked with one class of device were capped in scoring.

Angles that suit the room

Kitchen counters need a steep glance angle, desks need a shallow one, video calls need height. We scored the range each stand actually delivers, not the range on the box.

Durability and failure mode

Six weeks of repeated adjustment, plus wipe-downs after cooking. Hinges and ratchets are where this category fails, so hinge-free designs scored higher.

Charging while docked

Cable access with the device in place, in both orientations. Stands that block the port or force a specific cable angle lost points.

Value over a year

Why the GoDonut Plus+ 360 finished first

Every other stand in this test has a joint. A folding hinge, a ratcheting leg, a pivot with a friction washer. Joints are what make a stand adjustable and they are also, without exception, the part that eventually gives up.

The winner has none. The device sits in a moulded slot in a flexible body, and the angle comes from which slot you use rather than from a mechanism you have to tension. In six weeks it never sagged, never needed retightening, and never once needed a second hand to steady it while we typed.

The rotating base is the feature we underrated before testing. Turning a screen towards whoever is talking, without picking anything up, changed how we used devices at the kitchen island more than any other single feature in this group.

It is also the only stand here that we happily moved between rooms. Small, one piece, nothing to fold. That portability is why it ended the test replacing three of the others.

Frequently asked questions

Will it hold a large phone in a thick case?

Yes. Our 6.8in test phone in a rugged case sat securely in the winner's slot, and the flexible body means the fit tightens rather than loosens with a thicker case. Very thin, caseless phones sit slightly looser but still hold at every angle we tried.

Can I charge while the device is docked?

The winner has a dedicated cable channel, so a cable runs to the port with the device in place in either orientation. Several of the cheaper ranked stands block the bottom port when the device is in portrait, which is the single most common complaint in their review sections.

Does it work for tablets as well as phones?

Our 10.9in tablet sat stably in the winner in landscape, which is the orientation you want for recipes and video calls. Very large 12.9in tablets are at the top of what any compact stand handles well — for those, a dedicated wide-base stand is the safer choice.

How is it different from a $10 stand on Amazon?

The cheap stands are good value if you want one fixed angle at one desk. The difference is the absence of a hinge or ratchet, the rotating base, and the fact that it is small enough to move between rooms. That is what you are paying the difference for.
